The United States (US) is a country the internal affairs of which are regarded as quite important for its success. The governments of the US are responsible for internal affairs of the country. On the other hand, the US also has an important role in development of other countries by offering the best assistance that it can. This global role of the US has been engulfed by criticism where most critics have viewed the US to prioritize only its own selfish interests using the global role. For instance, the global role of the US government is reflected in its involvement in peace keeping missions in the Middle East countries. Although the US government manages to stabilize the situation in the countries, it has been said to have also taken a selfish interest in the region where it has exploited the region’s resources to its advantage (Rosen 57). Various scholars have written books and articles on the US global roles specifying the area in which the US government has played those roles and their advantages and disadvantages. The essay aims at reflecting on various sources in an attempt to analyze the information with regards to US global role proving that it is important for all the parties involved; hence concluding that the US should not hold to a policy of isolationism but ought to proceed with its global role.

Moreover, the United States is Taiwan’s most vital friend and this relationship started back during the period of World War II as well as the Cold War. That was when the nation went through its sternest test in 1979 (Rosen 44). It was when Jimmy Carter terminated the diplomatic relations of the United States with Taiwan in an attempt to enhance burgeoning relations with China. That way Congress responded to the situation by strengthening the Taiwan Relations Act. That provided a promise that it could supply Taiwan with weaponry that could enable its defense. Moreover, the United States could regard an attack by the Chinese as unacceptable (Rosen 54). That shows the global role that the United States has played in major nations of the world including Taiwan.

Some authors have specifically referred to the global role of the US as the global policeman role. This is because the US always strictly follows the progress of a situation in its external territories justifying the activities in the situation. This goes to an extent of even the US government using its resources in the global role. For instance, in the peace keeping missions, that the US government has engaged itself in, it always ensures that it dominates in the mission. This creates a more participative role in the mission whereby its global policeman role is manipulated intensively. “During the 1990s, the United States took a leading role in four large multinational operations with peacekeeping phases under U.S, or NATO and U.N: auspices: Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, (all under U.N. mandates) and Kosovo” (Watters 78). This means that the US military was given all the resources available for the mission so that they can effectively dominate over the other peace keeping troops. The domination of the US military in the missions granted the US government the role to monitor the general situation of the missions.

In addition, the military sent to the area of interest came with valuable information in regard to the region’s aspects. Therefore, the US government detects the weaknesses and strengths of an area and may in return benefit itself from the region. The unexploited resources in the region are exploited and this creates the disadvantages of the US global role. This means that the US global role is manipulative to other areas whereby the resources available in those areas are used to the benefit of United States disadvantaging the residents of the area where the mission is located. The military in the regions is forced to follow the traditions of the US military (Yoshino, Rangan and Rabasco 123). For instance, the NATO troops are forced to comply with the US traditions despite their home country traditions. Therefore, the global role of the United States is manipulative in some cases making it to be substantially unimportant in these cases.

The United States of America has established itself economically. It is termed as the world super power whereby the economy of the USA is strong with a high GDP value. In return, the USA has the economic ego over the other countries. This creates a more broad and reasonable background for the US government to play an economic global role. The US government is, therefore, in a high capability to influence the economic status of other countries. The fact that the US dollar is referred to as a universal currency creates a higher probability for the US global role to be implemented in most economies.“The US economy is for most economies their trading partner…..Even for countries that do not trade so much with the US, they are influenced by its dominance through the partners’ trade. Of course, the economies that trade a lot with the US are most likely affected by US economic Shocks” (Dees & Saint-Guilhem 575). This means that the global role of the United States in economic affairs is felt in the economies of other countries even without a direct input of the US government. This enhances the economic super power nature of the US government whereby it influences the value of the economic development in the other countries. The nature of the US dollar as a common currency makes the international economy also monitored by the United States (Serafino 49). This creates the nature of economic colonization in the international market. Its main disadvantage is that the devaluation of the US dollar leads to the decline of the economy as a whole. Therefore, the global role of the United States in the economy is advantageous if handled sensitively and disadvantageous if inappropriately handled.

The economic global role of the US is also felt in the regional trading blocs whereby the trading currency in the blocs is the US dollar. The economy of the trading blocs is also supervised by the United Nations, the members of which are mostly from the US. Therefore, the US global role in economy has wide impacts on the economic settings of many countries and trading blocs. The USA’s global role is also felt in the provision of social amenities. Social amenities include the provision of health, education and infrastructure facilities (Dees & Saint-Guilhem 581). The US contribution in global control of the health status of most of the countries is greatly felt. This is because the technological advancements in the US health sector are of high standards.

Most importantly, the economic superiority of the United States creates resources that are essential for the development of health facilities. “In the face of a global health crisis, Nye’s paradox can help to define a new role that America can play. This role would imply strengthening the U.S. soft-power role in health by moving beyond both a national-interest paradigm and an international disease-control model based on macroeconomic arguments” (Kickbusch 132). This means that the United States investigates health crisis that has affected people internationally. This urge by the US government is facilitated by the wide pool of resources that it has with an aim of developing health technology. The knowhow and technology capabilities of the United States make it efficient in performing the global role in health provision. The health standards of the United Nations are dependent on the US health-related discoveries (Serafino 44). This means that the world nations are under the US standards because the UN depends on the research of the USA in health sector. Therefore, the US role in health is global whereby the health standards are US oriented.

Global policeman nature of the United States is manifested in the country`s foreign policies. The United States has developed a common attitude towards foreign nations whereby it prioritizes its internal affairs. Foreign nations are regarded as non-stakeholders in the internal affairs of the USA. However, the US aims at controlling these nations in terms of providing them with policies on how to deal with various situations. “Ultimately, to analyze or theorize US foreign policy on the basis of practical-conjectural considerations weighed by policy makers is to assume that social behavior flows from pre-given subjectivities” (Robinson 5). This means that the philosophies that the US develops in regard to foreign nations have diversified aims. The advantages of the global role of the United States in foreign nations are experienced in terms of positive encouragement offered to them by the government. These advantages help foreign nations borrow ideas from the US in order to develop their internal affairs. On the other hand, the US global role in foreign nations is disadvantageous because it poses risks to the internal affairs of the nations. This is a weakness to these nations because the confidentiality of a nation remains threatened. Therefore, the United States global policeman nature in foreign nations threatens the situations in the countries by reducing their secrecy (Serafino 51). This may be up to the point whereby the development of the nations is derailed due to the US interference of their internal affairs.

The formation of alliances is another common area where the global role of the United States is felt. All the alliances that the world’s nations form are overseen by the US. The main reason behind the monitoring of the alliances formed by the nations is due to the sensitive nature of the nations in terms of confidentiality. The US is threatened by the alliances formed by the nations because they serve as threats to its economic superiority. These alliances are never treasured by the US government. “The forging of what have become known as strategic alliances has been noted by senior management of firms” (Yoshino, Rangan and Rabasco 3). This shows that the alliances that most of the nations have been forming have had economic benefits to the stakeholders in the alliance. For instance, the alliances that have been formed in countries in the Middle East region are based on the industrial coalitions. These coalitions are aimed at increasing the economic net worth of the countries through the industrial inputs (Serafino 57). However, the USA has been in the forefront to undermine the alliances whereby it views the alliances as a threat to its economic superiority.

The global role of the US is also manifested in the industrial globalization of the nation. The US has been making crucial progress in industrial developments whereby industrial technologies in the United States have remained secure and efficient for the realization of the industrial goals and targets. Industrial innovations and inventions help in creating international encouragement for the development of industries. This effect is referred to as the industrial globalization of the US. It is stated that “the globalization of the US Apparel Industry helps in liberating international trade in textile and apparel” (Rosen 5). This shows that the industrial globalization of the US performs the global role whereby the industrial standards are indirectly set by the US industrial nature. This industrial globalization is advantageous to both parties. The US government is able to benefit from the comparative advantage of other nations where the nations give the US a competitive environment in developing its industrial technology (Robinson 43). To foreign nations, the advantages are economic advancement through borrowing industrial concepts from the United States. Therefore, the global role of US industrial globalization is significant in ensuring that the industries are internationally developing at a common speed.

American culture has a vital impact on other states. US’s culture is defined as a westernized culture whereby it has been absorbed by other nations in the world. Westernization of culture in most parts of the world creates a unidirectional attitude in the world’s common phenomenon. For instance, western culture has been believed to be the supreme culture in the world. Therefore, people act according to what it entails with an aim of realizing the common nature of the Americans` attitude to culture. It is highlighted that “to travel internationally is to become increasingly unnerved by the way American culture pervades the world” (Watters 1). This means that American culture has controlled the world directing it to a common point. Therefore, US culture is regarded as the key culture to every situation. This means that the global role of American culture leads to the disintegration of cultures of most countries.

In conclusion, the global role of the US is an important aspect because it has supported the world in various aspects. Ranging from economic dependencies to culture dependencies, the global role of the US has been manipulated to provide advantages and disadvantages to all the stakeholders. Therefore, the isolation of the USA from the rest of the world is impossible due to the global role played by the US government. The global role of the US has had several implementations in the current society. The isolation of the USA from other nations can cause devastating effects in the world. This is because nations across the world depend directly or indirectly on the US developments. For instance, the isolation of American economy from the world will lead to an economic decline across the world. Therefore, the global role of the USA makes it hard to isolate the USA from the rest of the world.
